The valve includes means for retaining part of the liquid displaced in the pump, in order to return it at a suitable moment. The retaining means can be a heel portion added to the valve proper, and having a larger surface than the latter, acting as a pressure regulator. The pump is for handling liquids containing malleable substances in suspension. The design gives, compared with existing designs, a longer life with less wear and back leakage. The pump has an elliptical rotor the rotor ends at the ends of the major axis being flattened. The valve tip rides on the rotor, the valve being pivoted at its heel.
