Formable, self-supporting gel - contg synthetic montmorillondoid clay, carboxyl-contg polymer and second polymer

Formable, self-supporting gel contg. water, 3-6 wt.% of a synthetic montmorillonoid clay, 0.01 to 1.0 wt.% of a linear, carboxyl gp. -contg. polymer and 0.1 to 3 wt.% polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylamide, ethyl cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and/or hydroxyethyl cellulose as second polymer. The gel may contain also up to 30 wt.% of a water-sol. alcohol, an inorganic electrolyte in amt. up to 0.4 m.eq/g. clay, one or more volatile air treatment agents in amt. up to 10 wt.% w.r.t. the water content of the gel. e.g. perfume oils, biocides and insecticides. The gels are elastic, stable and free from synaresis. They are suitable for releasing perfumes and other air treating agents, for electrophoresis gels, for casting films, and as fillers for elastic castings, e.g. water beds.
