The method of making fastener elements for sliding clasp fasteners comprises a pair of fastener elements attached respectively to a pair of stringer tapes by threads, the fastening elements being comprised by spiral plastic filaments. The method includes mounting the spiral filament on to a carrier wheel, applying a force to these filaments when carried by the carrier wheel by means of a pressure wheel which is located adjacent to the carrier wheel and which is rotating about its axis whereby a depression is formed in each spiral filament at least intermediate the width of the spiral.
