1420106 Television NIPPON STEEL CORP and HAMAMATSU TV CO Ltd 22 Jan 1973 3238/73 Heading H4F Data from a plurality of channels is multiplexed with a television video signal and recorded on a video tape by converting an analogue data signal from each channel into a 10-bit digital signal these bits being recorded sequentially during 10 line scan periods of the video signal one bit in a blanked portion of the video signal after each horizontal sync pulse. After multiplexing a 10-bit digital signal from one channel with the video signal a parity bit pulse and then a word bit pulse are multiplexed with the video signal after the next two horizontal sync pulses. An analogue data signal from the next channel is them similarly multiplexed with the video signal during 12 line periods, i.e. 10-bit digital signal, parity bit pulse and word bit pulse. The sequential multiplexing of data from all the selected channels from which it is desired that data should be recorded, the other channels being skipped over, is similarly effected and then a group bit pulse is multiplexed with the video signal in the same blanked portion of the video signal as the last word bit pulse from the last channel. The multiplexing sequence is then repeated starting at the first channel. In addition a channel command pulse of substantially line duration is included in the vertical blanking period followed in the next line period by pulses signifying by their position the channels from which data has been selected. All the bit pulses are recorded at time #t 1 , after the horizontal sync pulses except the group bit pulses which are recorded at time #t 2 after the horizontal sync pulses. The complete signal may be displayed as shown in Fig. 4. The data signals recorded may signify the time of generation of the video signals.
