1433067 Holographic interferometry BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 12 Feb 1974 [14 Feb 1973] 06291/74 Heading G1A Holographic interferometry is used to investigate the profile of an object. In Fig. 1(a), a hologram is recorded by illuminating the object with a beam B(w 1 w 2 ) comprising two frequencies w 1 , w 2 , reference beams R 1 (w 1 ) and R 2 (w 2 ) being applied from different angles on to the plate H. In reconstruction, Fig. 1(b) reference waves of different frequencies w 1 SP1/SP, w 2 SP1/SP but identical orientations to the recording reference beams, are used and the reconstructed wave fields are focused on to a plane E by lens L. The phase of the fluctuating (beat frequency) light intensities at different points on the plane is investigated by a movable photo diode F 2 , photo diode F 1 providing a reference phase, to provide profile information about the object. In a second arrangement, Fig. 2 showing both recording and reconstruction, two holographic 'plates are used, one for one set of frequencies w 1 , w 1 SP1/SP and the other for the other set of frequencies w 2 , w 2 SP1/SP. In this arrangement the same source can be used to provide the two reference beams, e.g. using a two-frequency laser or mechano-optical modulation of a laser beam. An array of detectors, associated with a plurality of phase meters, may be used. An x-y recorder may be coupled to the detector to map the object surface.
