1435599 Purifying and aerating aquaculture pools SYNTEX (USA) Inc 7 Dec 1973 [18 Dec 1972] 56910/73 Heading C1C A process for purifying and aerating aquaculture pools comprises (a) passing the water upwardly through an aggregate filter bed composed of hard surfaced low absorption aggregrate (there may be two beds-coarse and fine) together with air to aerobically biodegrade organic contaminants via the action of aerobic bacteria, (b) venting air and gaseous products thereby giving purified water, (c) collecting said purified water and (d) bubbling air through the pumped water to aerate it and then discharge it to an aquaculture pool. Apparatus suitable for such a process is shown in Figs. 1 and 2, which are largely selfexplanatory. Filter beds (14a, 14b) receive water through passages (4) and air through inlet (6) and a distribution system, e.g. plate (7). Purified water flows through passages (10) into the sump (9) and is blown out into the pool through discharge means (11) by air fed through inlet (13a).
