The film 4 is formed by extrusion of a melt from the blowhead 2 having a cooling ring 3. The calibrating apparatus 5SP1/SP, 5SP11/SP comprises calibrating elements 6SP1/SP and 6SP11/SP and has mounted thereon holders 7SP1/SP, 7SP11/SP to which the blow pipes 8SP1/SP, 8SP11/SP are connected. Each pair of blow pipes is interconnected by universal ball joints 9. Blower 10 supplies air through the U- shaped hose 11 the annular distributing channel 12 and interconnecting hoses 13. The cooled film may be flattened at take off after pleating at 16.
