1448969 Suction dredgers KONIJN MACHINEBOUW BV and BAGGER-EN CONSTRUCTIEBEDRIFJ JOHAN KLIP BV 20 March 1975 [22 May 1974] 11732/75 Heading E1F A mouthpiece for a suction dredger has an inlet section 8 open on the underside and having sides 9 which converge rearwardly towards a comminuting section 11, which is also open on the underside, rotatably supports a shaft 14 carrying bladed comminuting members 16 and opens rearwardly into a suction section 17 provided with a connection 19, which can be coupled to a suction line of a dredger. Preferably the shaft is positively rotated by a hydraulic motor and each comminuting member has four cutting blades. A guard cage 26 formed by parallel guard rails 27 may be provided as shown to the comminuting section. The inlet section 8 may have a cover plate 10 that extends obliquely downwards towards the comminuting section to be pivotally attached thereto as may be the side plates 9. The mouthpiece is particularly designed for collecting and treating coarse dredged material containing bulky vegetation or plants. Such material entering the mouthpiece is compressed as it passes towards the comminuting section by the side plates and the cover plate, and any components of this compressed material that cannot be comminuted by the cutting blades, which project for part of their travel through the guard cage are deflected clear of the mouthpiece.
