A PROCESS FOR COOLING AND PURIFYING HOT GASES OBTAINED BY THE GASIFICATION OF SOLID AND/OR LIQUID FUELS

Hot gases produced by the partial oxidation (parallel flow gasification) of solid and/or liquid fuels can be cooled and purified. The gases are contacted at a higher pressure directly with water in a spray column and the water outflow is expanded to normal pressure and freed from the dissolved gaseous components. The water is separated and the entrained solids are removed before it is recycled into the contact column. This prevents the release of malodorous and toxic gases (H2S, COS, CO) into the atmosphere from water settling basins. This system operates with a better cooling and purification efficiency.
