1529881 Hydraulic ram EDBRO Ltd 19 Feb 1976 [20 Feb 1975] 7235/75 Heading F1D An hydraulic ram assembly comprises a plurality of co-axial telescopic ram tubes 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15, Fig. 1, and restraining devices 20 associated with respective ram tubes, each restraining device comprising a groove 22, Fig. 2, in which the leading end of the associated ram tube is located. Each restraining device further comprises a screw threaded portion 21 provided with a buttress thread for engaging a corresponding screw thread formed adjacent the leading end of the associated ram tube. Seals 29 and 30 are provided and the smallest diameter ram tube 15 is connected to a casing 18 by means of a mounting head (17) Fig. 3 (not shown), and end-wall 19. The trailing ends of the ram tubes are provided with spring steel base rings (31), Fig. 4 (not shown), mounted in recesses formed in the inner surfaces of the tubes, for sliding engagement with adjacent annular abutments (32) mounted on the outer surfaces of the tubes. Hydraulic fluid may be introduced through an inlet 35 or alternatively the trailing ends of the ram tubes may extend into a hydraulic fluid reservoir when in the collapsed disposition, Fig. 5 (not shown) having a breather assembly. The ram may be mounted on a vehicle chassis by means of trunnions 37 and connected to a pivotally mounted body by trunnions 36 so that extension of the ram causes the body to pivot about an axis on the chassis.
