The telescopically extensible platform stand, which may be used to accommodate rows of seating, based on a comparatively soft or resilient sports ball floor, is supported on elements of the air cushion type. These elements, in the form of base plates (1), serve to reduce the resultant surface pressure effect, as compared with the usual rollers or wheels, and there is no need for further plates, rails or lengths of chain. The lateral surfaces may also be in the form of air cushions, taking over the function of parallel guiding relative to each other when extension or contraction is taking plate. There may be one or more holes or slits (6) serving as air outlet apertures, in the air cushion base plates, so that higher pressure can be attained where appropriate, if there are uneven areas in the floor. The base plates may be made up from segmented sections. The whole unit can be moved to different parts of the floor.
