Droplet separator for gases - has tapered section slats permitting higher gas flow with reduced tendency to clogging

The separator comprises a large number of prismatic members each having a tear-shaped or aerofoil-shaped section. Pref. the prismatic members are arranged in rows stagered one after the other. By using this type of cross-section, it is found that relatively high gas speeds are acceptable with a considerably reduced risk of deposits of solids from either the liquid droplets or the flowing gas upon the separator surfaces. As a result, the effective flow rate can be increased and the risk of clogging is considerably reduced. In addition, downward flow of the precipitated liquid is esp. facilitated in the low-pressure region of the tapering section, reducing the tendency for the liquid for re-entrained in the gas flow.
