The tensile strength of B filaments is increased by maintaining the filaments under tesion at 200-350 degrees F in a pure N2 atmosphere for a time insufficient to form a nitride. Used in the production of B filament composite impregnated with a resin or metal matrix. The process stress-relieves the filaments and the N2 heals any surface defects.
