Sealed bearing for wheel - with plastic sleeve and coated hole in wheel hub

The stub axle (10) of the vehicle is fitted with a plastic bearing sleeve (25) whose outer surface is treated for low friction. The sleeve is located on the axle by a flanged end (32) gripping into a groove around the axle. The wheel is provided with a blind hole to locate the axle. The inside face of the hole is coated with a similar plastic, or a low friction coating. The wheel is secured on the axle by a flanged lip (28) at the entrance of the hole. The system provides a smooth running bearing which is little affected by weathering.
