The torsional vibration damper for the crankshaft of an internal combustion engine has a hub (1a) with a convex profile. The outer ring (2a) has a bore with a similar profile of slightly greater diameter, and the gap between hub (1a) and ring (2a) is filled with a rubber liner (3a). The smallest internal diameter (5) of the ring (2a) is smaller than the maximum outside diameter (6) of the hub. This ensures that in the event of failure of the rubber lining (3a), the outer ring (2a) cannot become completely detached from the hub (1a). Also the cost of the damper is reduced since it is not necessary to vulcanise the rubber sleeve (3a) to the hub (1a) or ring (2a).
