The box-shaped lower part of an inspection shaft for a drain system has side opening for connection of waste pipes. The connectors are adaptable to any given connection angle and waste pipe sizes. Prefabricated connecting blocks 2, 3 have semicylindrical outside surfaces. The bore of the connector matches the end of a given effluent pipe. Each connecting block can be moved through a total angle of forty five degrees. Any connector seats not taken up by connecting blocks are blocked off. The connecting blocks can be held in their seats by adhesive bonding.
