Gallium extn foom sodium aluminate liquors - using liquid gallium and aluminium alloy to effect cementation

A process for extn. of gallium from sodium aluminate liquors comprises (a) contacting a feedstock sodium aluminate liquor with stirring at elevated temp. with a liquid gallium-aluminium alloy contg. 0.2-6 wt. % Al to cause gallium cementation from the liquor and (b) separating the gallium recovered by the cementation procedure from the liquor. Permits extn. of gallium directly from sodium aluminate liquors of practically any compsn. using high and low gallium raw materials, raising the purity of the prod. and the gallium recovery ratio, speeding up the process of gallium extn. and improving the economics. Gallium is extd. at lower rate of aluminium consumption from the liquors produced in the Bayer process or in the Bayer sintering process.
