Fire-proof sheets are produced from cement asbestos slurry by subjecting the slurry to centrifugal action to produce a uniform layer from which water has been removed. Water is removed from the sheet during its prodn. and fibres are aligned in the course of its manufacture. Sheets are produced by placing a wire mesh mat in a split drum rotatable about a hollow shaft serving also as the supply line for the slurry which is uniformly distributed about the inner wall of the drum lined with the mat. A shaft may also be arranged for connection to air supply and exhaust such that during the centrifugal action drying air may be supplied to and wet air exhausted from the drum interior.
