A radiation pyrometer has an optical system and a measuring diaphragm to limit the zone of observation. A fixed measuring head is fitted with a movable measuring diaphragm (5) to enable the zone of observation to be shifted. The diaphragm movement is pref. effected by an externally controlled drive (6) and the diaphragm pref. either to and for or in a circle around the pyrometer. Pref. a fixed lens (7) located as closely behind the diaphragm as possible produces an image on the radiation detector (9) of a radiation limiting diaphragm (8) situated between the imaging system (4) and the measuring diaphragm.
