Phenoxyalkanoic acid derivs. are of formula (I) and their pharmacologically tolerable salts are new. In (I), R'1 and R'2 are halogen or 2C lower alkoxy and R'3 and R'4 are H or lower alkyl (and if R'3 and/or R'4 is/are 2C lower alkyl, then R'1 and R'2 can additionally be H or OCH3, and if R'1 is 2C lower alkoxy, then R'2 can also be H or OCH3); Z is OH, OCH3 or OC2H5; and n is 1, 2 or 3. (I) are lipid lowering agents. Specific cpds. (I) include ethyl 2-/4-(4-chlorobenzamidoethyl)-phenoxy/-butyrate. In an example, this cpd. is prepd. by refluxing a mixt. of N-(4-chlorobenzoyl)tyramine, anhydrous K2CO3 and anhydrous 2-butanone 2 hrs., adding ethyl 2-chlorobutyrate and a small amt. of KI.
