The turbo molecular pump is intended for separating a gas mixture into constituent parts of different molecular weights. It has distributor drives mounted on a motor driven shaft, as in 2518201, and the stirrer discs (2) alternating with fixed stator discs (12), the latter being made of porous material, such as a porous ceramic oxide. The rotor shaft (1) is mounted verticaly inside a vertical housing, and the horizontal stirrer discs carry corrugated distributor blades which slope in the conveying direction of the gas mixture so as to divert and convey the molecules of different mass so as to assist separation.
