1503104 Screw sockets ITW FASTEX ITALIA SpA 11 June 1976 [12 June 1975] 24239/76 Heading F2H A screw socket 1 comprises a shank with an external flange 6 at one end, an external shoulder facing the flange, and an axial through bore 2, with an insert 7 of similar cross-section to the bore 2 attached to the end of the shank bearing the flange 6 by at least one frangible web 11 so that the insert 7 is coaxial with the bore 2, the insert having a recess 8 to receive a screw. As shown, the shank and its bore are of square section. The shank comprises two tapered portions 3, 4 which meet at their larger ends to form said shoulder. The bore 2 has a recess 5 at each corner to make the shank flexible. The insert 7 has, near its attachment to the shank, a pair of diametrically opposite projections 12, and at its free end a pair of diametrically opposed flanges 13 on a transverse axis at right angles to the transverse axis of the projections 12. A recess 10 in the attached end of the insert is separated from the recess 8 by a diaphragm 9. To instal the socket in a square hole 16 in a sheet member 15, Fig. 2, the socket 1 is pushed into the hole so that its shoulder engages the rear face of the member 15. The insert 7 is then driven into the bore 2 until the projections 12 engage one end of the shank and the flanges 13 seat in a transverse recess 14 across the flange 6. The diaphragm 9 is intended to prevent the escape of liquid foam when the socket is installed in a panel 15 behind which foamed plastics insulation is formed in situ, e.g. in a refrigerator lining.
