Electroslag welding of thick plates - using one nozzle assembly to feed numerous consumable electrode wires into weld pool

In the method nozzles function as electrodes and also carry the continuous welding wire fed into the gap between the parts being welding together, the nozzle assembly moving continuously in the gap during welding. The novelty is that the nozzle assembly consists of one unit comprising several nozzles rigidly joined to each other and used for the continuous feeding of several welding wires. One pref. design consists of a row of tubes bent to form a 90 degrees segment of a pancake or fan, each tube being used to feed an electrode wire. Used in welding of thick plate, e.g. up to 300 mm thickness, using multiple wires fed into the weld pool via. a single nozzle assembly, the welding being employed in mfg. boilers, heavy presses, rolling mills, etc.
