1512742 Refrigerating; cooling liquids by gases ELECTROLUX Ltd 1 June 1976 [30 June 1975] 22608/76 Headings F4H and F4K An absorption refrigeration system operating with inert gas comprises an electric heating cartridge 11, a condenser 24, an evaporator 26, 27, a gas heat exchanger 29, an absorber 17, an absorber vessel 18, a liquid heat exchanger 15, and an evaporative pre-cooler 33 formed by two spaced conduits 35, 36 interconnected by a flat hollow chamber 34. In operation, the inert gas flows up through a pipe 28 in the evaporator to a zone 32, 42 at the beginning of the evaporator. The inert gas then flows downwardly in a refrigerant mixture through the annular space around the pipe 28 in the evaporator as upwardly into the pre-cooler 33. The internal surfaces of the pre-cooler are provided with capillary passages. A section 38 located above the pre-cooler is formed identically to the precooler. A vent pipe 37 extends from between the junction of sections 33 and 38 to the gas heat exchanger 29. The vent pipe is of larger diameter piping than the conduits 36, 41.
