The piezoelectric igniter has a guide with two moving piezoelectric elements. The potential difference generated is applied to the spark discharge arrangement. This arrangement generates at least one but preferably two or more spark discharges per actuation cycle by means of a relatively simple device. The guide (1) for the piezoelectric element (6, 6) is held at one end (2) so that it can rotate. The other end has a piston shaped pressure exerting component (9). In the rest position the longitudinal direction of the rod is at an obtuse angle to the movement direction of pressure exerting components. The rod is moved out of rest position by a cam (15) to align with the direction of the rod longitudinal axis and the guiding direction of the pressure exerting component.
