High strength alpha-beta Ti alloy products, which are homogeneous, have 100% theoretical density and have a controlled content of gaseous impurities, are formed by (a) preparing alloy particles by machining, (b) removing impurities, (c) removing air using inert gas or hydrogen, (d) hydriding the particles by heating at ca 427 degrees C in hydrogen, and cooling in the absence of air, (e) grinding the particles, most of the particles having a size 0.012 cm, (f) dehydriding in vacuum at high temp., and (g) compacting the particles in vacuum and compacting again to full theoretical density at a temp. approaching the alpha-beta-transformation temp. High quality products can be produced from material such as scrap.
