Protection of stainless steel textile bleaching trough - using amine salts of nonylphenoxy acetic acid to combat effect of chlorine dioxide

Long stainless steel troughs used in bleaching of textiles by sodium chlorite are protected using amine salts of nonylphenoxyacetic acid and stabilisers in acid medium. Pref. the amine salt is introduced as a soln. obtd. from 40% nonylphenoxyacetic acid and amine. In an example a salt was prepd. from 149 pts. (mol.) triethanolamine, 105 pts. diethanolamine and 61 pts. monoethanolamine and 278 pts. acid, with sufficient water to give a 40% soln. 1.5 g/l - 5 g/l were used. A salt of 87 pts. morpholine and 278 pts. acid in 40% soln. may also be used. The salts may be used in baths contg. 1-5 g/l sodium chlorite.
