Surgical dressing using cheap absorbent wadding - completely wrapped within folded backing sheet of textile gauze

Absorbent surgical dressing comprises a flat pad of absorbent material positioned in the middle of a sheet of gauze or other porous backing material of which the edges on all sides are folded inwards to overlap the pad. the backing sheet then being folded over upon itself so that the flat pad is gripped between approaching faces of the backing sheet in such a way that the pad is completely enclosed within backing sheet material. The approaching faces of the folded backing sheet can be fastened together with adhesive or stitches. Highly absorbent, sterile dressing for open wounds is obtd. The flat pad can be made of cotton or synthetic fibres or viscose wadding and makes up into a dressing which is just as absorbent as but much cheaper than a dressing made up of superimposed multiple layers of gauze alone.
