Machine for continuously salting cheeses - by tumbling cheeses in salt in a rotary drum

In a machine for salting cheeses a rotary drum on a horizontal axis is used to tumble cheeses in grains of salt, the interior of the drum being fitted with a scoop which is carried around to gather cheeses from the salt, raise them and discharge them from the drum via a gravity chute. The scoop is pref. a radial grille which picks up a cheese at the drum periphery and after raising the cheese clear of the salt, delivers it near the axis of the drum onto a gravity chute. The machine mechanises an operation which was previously skilled and labour-intensive.
