Process for the preparation of 2, 5-dimethoxy-4-chloroaniline by catalytic hydrogenation of 2, 5-dimethoxy-4-chloronitrobenzene in a solvent at elevated temperature and elevated pressure, characterised in that 2, 5-dimethoxy-4-chloronitro-benzene is hydrogenated with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst and with addition of an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic amine.
