Lead acid accumulator separator - made of microporous resin coated plastic mat with conical dimple impressions

The separators for a lead-acid accumulator are made of thin carrier layer with large pores to which a solution of a resin, a solvent and a fluid miscible with the solvent has been applied and dried. Dimples are impressed into this foil to contact the positive plates with their points and the negative plates with their flate parts and to act as spacers, filled with electrolyte. This results in separators of high mechanical strength by a partial closure of the micropores. The remaining pores act as filters for heavy metal poisons so that the battery life is lengthened. The separators ensure a high capacity for the accumulator.
