Sand barrier device - for oil wells combines packer on mandrel with shear-type seats in valve housing

A device to introduce a sand barrier into an oil well consists of a tubular mandrel with a bush on which ports are surrounded by sealing rings and which carries a valve seat. The latter can be sheared off by hydraulic pressure. A packer can seal the mandrel against the casing. The packer housing is attached to a valve casing which carries another valve seat and a sand strainer. Th is requires only one setting of the packer. The strainer can be set less than 30m away from the packer so that several zones can be treated in the same well. The device is simple, reliable and saves time.
