1463407 Slider holder for the assemblage of sliding clasp fasteners YOSHIDA KOGYO KK 15 May 1974 [30 May 1973] 21447/74 Heading E2S A device, for holding a slider S for the assemblage of a fastener chain therethrough wherein the slider includes a channelled body B and a pull tab P which has an opening Po therein loosely receiving a lug L formed on the body B, comprises an upright support 10 having a slider rest 11 formed on its top and a slit 12 extending downwardly from the slider rest to telescopically receive the pull tab on the slider when the latter is placed upsidedown on the rest 11, and a vertically-extending, hollow space 13 substantially crosswise with the slit 12; a locking lever 15 accommodated in the space 13 and pivotally supported, at a point 16, intermediate both ends thereof so as to be turnable between an operative and an inoperative position; and a detent 18 formed at the top of the lever 15 and adapted to engage the opening Po in the pull tab when the locking lever 15 is in the operative position and to disengage the opening Po when the locking lever 15 is in the operative position. According to the invention the locking lever 15 has formed at its bottom end an abutment 19 which is adapted to cause the locking lever 15 to turn from the inoperative, toward the operative, position when the pull tab P is telescopically inserted into the slit 12; a cam portion 20 also formed at the bottom end of the locking lever 15; and resilient actuating means 25, 26 cooperative with the cam portion 20 to urge the locking lever 15 toward, and away from, the operative position. In use, with the locking lever 15 in the inoperative position, Fig. 2, the tab P of a slider S, in an upside-down position, is introduced into the slit 12 the bottom tip of the tab P making contact with the abutment 19 while the slider remains a short distance above the rest 11. As an operator then presses the slider down toward the rest 11 the bottom of the tab P slides down the abutment 19 to start the lever 15 moving anticlockwise and cam balls 25, loaded by leaf springs 26, Fig. 3, to ride up respective first cam surfaces 22 at either side of the cam portion 20 and over ridges 21 onto second cam surfaces 23. The manual depression of the slider S becomes unnecessary as the balls 25 ride over the ridges 21 and the springs 26 urge the balls 25 along the surfaces 23 and move the locking lever 15 into its operative position Fig. 4, the detent 18 engaging in the opening Po to draw the slider tightly down onto the rest 11. After the chain F, Fig. 4, has been threaded onto the slider the operator pulls the slider upwardly so that the lever 15 turns clockwise as the detent 18 slides out of the opening Po and the balls 25 ride over the ridges 21 and onto the cam surfaces 22 when the springs 26 effect the forces which return the locking lever back to its inoperative position.
