A slit peg attached to the side of an extension to the type head neck moves within a guide slit at the end of an adjustable guide bar. This bar is swivelably attached to one arm of an approx. V-shaped adjusting lever which can be swivelled about its rotational axis to vary the distance of the type head from the carriage roller. A lower projection on the guide bar is held in constant contact with a cam by a spring. The typing head has a further neck extension which is swivelably attached to a bolt about which the head turns when the adjusting lever is moved.
