The mobile edge cutter is for use in trimming the borders of asphalt or other coated pathways and similar ground coverings, with the aid of a motor-driven cutting appliance. It provides a simple adjustment for the depth of cut. There is an accommodating unit (4) carrying the appliance (9) and its drive motor, mounted so as to be able to swivel in the chassis (1) about a horizontal axis, for adjustment of the cutting depth. This axis may run in the direction of cutting or travel. The unit can be swivelled by means of a rotatable threaded spindle engaging both the unit and the chassis. This spindle may have threads running opposite ways at each end, in contact with corresponding matrices hinged to accommodating unit and chassis respectively.
