The fitting for fixing broom handle to a broom head is made of plastic with a flat base (10). The base has holes (11) for screws to attach it to the broom head. A tube (12) projects upwards from the base and is provided with a longitudinal slot (12a). The mouth of the tube is slightly tapered. A plastic ring (13) is a close fit over the tube (12). The broom handle is pressed into the tube (12) which, because of the slot (12a) can expand to fit the handle. The ring (13) is then forced upwards as far as possible in order to make a firm joint between handle and tube (12). The broom head may be recessed to receive the base (10).
