The cover of a circular melting crucible has two semicircular fume extraction ducts which communicate through a moveable coupling within the vessel trunnion system, with the external fume extraction channels. Used in batch operating induction heated crucible furnaces for metal casting. When the crucible is tilted to pour out the molten metal charge, the fume ducts remain in operation and it is unnecessary to bring up a separate fume extraction canopy.
