The irrigation system for a sports pitch consists of pipes laid at a frost-free depth underneath the pitch. The collector pipes have branch pipes at set intervals, so that the feed pipes have drainage boxes. A layer of asphalt concrete is laid to the height of the top of the drainage boxes, and a waterproof sheet stuck to the smooth surface. Water from a reservoir passes through an inlet into the main pipe to a height set by a water table regulator.
