The protective padded strip (1) for cushioning the edges of furniture units in caravans, etc, is fastened between the end sides (8, 8a) of the furniture faces (6, 7) which abut each other at an angle and produces a load bearing connection between the furniture faces. The strip pref. has a rounded outer face (11) which lies more or less flush with the outer face (13) of the furniture faces (6, 7). Since the strip takes up the load it forms the actual corner connection between the furniture faces and by lying flush ensures that it cannot become loose through wear and tear. Where the strips run horizontally they can protrude beyond the outer face of the furniture surfaces so as to form a shelf.
