The control system is for a constant-tension winch as used on ships, and has a measured value converter on a rotary component. This converts the mechanical load on the component resulting from the rope tension into an electrical value, forming a control impulse for the winch driving motor. The converter can be a load measuring cell (11), mounted on the end of a shaft (7) in the winch equipped with a helical gear (12), or on the end of the worm shaft, where a worm drive is used. As further alternatives, there can be a bearing race measuring the load, on the end of a shaft having a spur gear, or a strain gauge indicating the torsion in the shaft.
