A teaching unit is used to provide visual and audio tuition in relation to basic music theory, and in particular to enable students to read musical scores. A rectangular unit (A) has a flap down transparent cover (12) with times of music represented by conductor film (10). The bottom edge of the unit has a simple keyboard (13) and the left hand side has a number of note selectors providing all possibilities (14). A probe (8) may be positioned on a specific note on a sheet of music that is placed under the transparent cover. The probe completes the circuit to a signal generator coupled to a loudspeaker.
