A fitting for a motor vehicle is held on a fastening plate with tapped holes. This plate is placed in a vehicle wall opening of matching shape. The plate is guided by a holding channel connected to mounting plate within the transverse support. The sheet metal fastening plate (12) has two projecting tapped bushes (18). The insertion hole (13) is profiled to facilitate the insertion of the plate. The holding channel (20) has an opening for the tapped projection (18) in its web. Flange (22) of the holding channel has an internal plate (23) for clamping.
