The homopolar magnetic field passes through the loss elements and also passes axially through at least one circular region (17) of the rotor (12). This region is offset radially from its outer edge. The field-generating force is constant in every angular position. The circular regions of the rotor have magnetic parts which alternate with non-magnetic parts having a high resistance. When the rotor turns, each point on the loss elements is exposed to an alternating magnetic field by the fluctuating permeance of the rotor. However, when the rotor turns in relation to the field system, each point of the rotor is subjected to a constant magnetic field.
