The traffic system, esp. a public urban passenger transport system, uses road-travelling vehicles which can move on tracks, and track channels with lateral guide stems. At the point of transition (10) from a road area (2) to the track channel (3), and/or on the vehicles (1), elements are fitted to catch the vehicles in the transverse direction, and to align them at the start of the channel. These elements can incorporate transverse setting sensors and reference lines, to establish relative transverse setting and/or lengthways inclination between vehicle and channel start. This obviates the danger of an excessively fast approach, liable to lead to side collisions.
