Current transformer design with an inner core is proposed and is arranged so that short comings of conventional designs, such as high over-current factor can be avoided without resorting to the use of external parallel-connected chokes or an intermediate transformer in order to reduce the excessive over-current factor. Moreover the location of a parallel choke within the transformer housing is very 'space consuming' and thus impracticable for many applications. To overcome the problems, a second core is located inside the winding space of the transformer core, and is provided with a winding arrangement, such that both core windings are connected in parallel with one another.
