Changing cores in cardboard winding machines - by forming tab by cutting travelling web applying tab to rotary core and severing leading edge by oblique cuts

In a paper web winding machine cores are changed in that the leading end of the new web is applied to an empty rotating core by cutting the trailing end of the travelling web to the fully wound web roll along two spaced lines extending along the travelling direction, cutting the web transversely between the lines to form a tab which is applied to the core and then continuing the cut lines obliquely and outwardly of the web to sever the leading end from the trailing end of the wound roll. Used for winding stiff cardboard webs. Dangerous manual handling of webs during core change is replaced by a fully automatic process.
