Heading HIS A wiper assembly for a potentiometer or variable resistor comprises a flexible V-shaped wiper positioned in a V-shaped slot of a rigid carrier with the ends of the wiper proud of the carrier, the wiper pressing on the sides of the slot to be retained by friction therein. As shown, a trimmer potentiometer includes a wiper carrier 18 having a slot 26 in an upstanding shoulder 20, and a wiper 28 resiliently, but removably, held in the slot, the ends of the wiper abutting a carbon or cermet resistive track 30 and a metallic return track 32 to a terminal (not shown). The dihedral angles of the wiper and slot may differ slightly, to stress the wiper and retain it in contact with the slot walls. Upon turning of lead screw 9, shoulder 20 moves in a fixed slot 22 of the potentiometer housing 4. The wiper carrier 18 may be of non- conductive, glass filled nylon and the wiper of a flexible, conductive beryllium/copper alloy with one or more convex fingers 28A on each arm.
