The front axle bearer (2) is formed as a towing bar (4) on its leading side and extends the whole width off the vehicle to serve as a keeper for the individual ballast weights (7). Each ballast weight has a cantilever (9) formed by an upper and a lower cutout (10, 11). The upper cut out grips round the top ledge of the keeper rail (12) and the lower cut out grips the bottom keeper rail (13). The upper face (14) of each cantilever has a 'V' shaped transverse groove (15) to mesh with a corresponding projection (16) on the lower face of the top keeper rail extending the whole length. A shaft (18) with a cam-shaped cross section locks the weights into position.
