Apparatus for installation on bank/post office countes to give additional protection to counter staff against hold-ups. It consists of a frame (10) located between the top of the counter (11) and a panel (13) suitably anchored to the ceiling. The frame contains two bullet-proof windows, one on the customer side and the other (which is detachable) on the cashier's side. A space is left between the two windows. A screen (16) which can be either flexible or rigid is suspended above the space between the two windows. It is attached to tensioned springs and can be activated by the cashier in the event of a hold-up. The screen drops down quickly, shutting off the cashier from the customer side of the counter, and thereby giving the cashier greater security.
