A heat exchanger has a secondary circuit in which liq. circulating is heated by steam condensing in the primary circuit. The steam condenses in a vertical condenser that has a steam inlet at the top and opens out at its bottom into a condensate capacitor sump. From the top of the sump there is an hydraulic column and an overflow connection that defines the max. height of condensate in the capacitor. This height is at least the steam inlet level to the condenser. A thermostat at the liq. outlet from the secondary circuit controls a steam valve on the inlet to the condenser. The press. in the condenser varies according to the quantity of steam passed by this valve. Thus when the press. decreases condensate from the capacitor sump is drawn into the condenser, decreasing the condensing surface. When the press. increases condensate is pushed from the condenser into the sump. Used for automatic regulation of liq. heating e.g. heating hot water by condensation of steam for heating of premises. Allows a great flexibility of regulation of a wide range of heat flows.
